Ok, so we have the Fight Gone Bad 5 competition thing figured out. Mallissa Corral is gong to be the team captain but she doesn’t know that until she reads this. So if you are reading this YOU NEED TO JOIN THE TEAM or at least donate some pocket change if you’re lazy. Donating is easy. Everyone that joins the CrossFit Pleasanton team gets their own donation web site page. I set mine up in 1.7 minutes today. My Page. Even the wide body power lifter need to do this. And the Harry MOnsters too. Fight Gone Bad 5 takes place on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at CrossFit Pleasanton from 8am to noon. The workout only takes 17 minutes and you can sandbag it if your ego doesn’t get in the way. All of the money goes to great causes like the Wounded Warrior project for our disabled veterans, Live Strong campaign, and the CrossFit Foundation that helps the families of fallen heroes of the Police, Fire, and Military (like Nate, the fallen Hero we commemorate with today’s workout). If you train at this gym I want you here Sept 25th or at least supporting us in some capacity. For more info click on the FGB5 banner at the top of this page or go to www.FGB5.org

CrossFit Power Lunch with Jesse Burdick from Prevail Powerlifting Team
Tuesday, August 17th, 2010Starting today, there is a Tuesday/Thursday power lifting hour for CrossFitters at noon. This class is free to all people paying for monthly unlimited CrossFit here at the worldâs greatest CrossFit box. Jesse Burdick from Prevail Power Lifting Team showed the CrossFitters how to get strong. Jesse and Paul will be heading out to Westside Barbell next month to attend Louis Simmon’s power lifting cert for CrossFit. As many members know we are also offering an adult gymnastics’s class for CrossFit on Sundays at 11. This is another way to get as strong as H-E-double hockey stick.
It was the best show in Pleasanton. The Bethinator showed up in a purple sea shell shirt (say that 10 times fast) that she purchased on clearance in Florida for .50 cents from a touristy novelty shop. She wanted to trade Andy her shirt for his sweaty towel. Then Beth hit a personal record on her deadlift of 225 pounds. She has a new Power Lifting slogan, âJesus Christ is my spotter.â She also had a great poem made up about Danâs butt that she shared with the class. Jessica, our little spit-fire gymnast, was deadlifting well over her buck-o-five body weight while Daron was defending his heritage from another minority.
Today was max effort lower body day. For the first class, Jesse brought in his gimp Andy the nocturnal inebriation regulator (bouncer). Andy benched about 730#âs at the last power lifting meet we hosted. We brought out the big bent bar and strapped a couple of blue bands onto it. These will add about 200#âs to the top of the lift for us tall guys. My arse got stuck at the bottom of a squat with 295 pounds on the bar or an equivalent of about 495 pounds at the top. Squatting with that thick band in a wide stance was a new experience for me. I have always squatted traditionally. Jesse made me rep out a bunch squats after my last heavy squat to burn the new lift into my motor pattern. Or to be cruel. I’m not sure which. Once I was out of the way Jesse worked up to six plates & change and Andy hit 7 plates and change. The collars barely fit on the bar when Andy had his final squat loaded. I think the stretchy pants they wear really help.
After the squats the class hit strict GHD 3×15 and reverse hypers to deload the spine. I was driving away from the gym when I remembered the reverse hypers and abs that Jesse told me to do when I got some time. So I came back and finished. Jesse just told me to do some ab work so I laughed my abs off:
Join us Thursday at high noon for more CrossFit Power Lunch action with Jesse Burdick.

Prowl for a Cure
Wednesday, August 4th, 2010October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. At a CrossFit Pleasanton, we are aware of breasts. In honor of the women (and men) struggling with breast cancer, we have decided to have a charity to support the cause. On Sunday, October 17 at 11 am the prowling will begin. It will end at 3pm.
Of all the exercises we have done, nothing probably comes closer to the feeling of Chemo than pushing the prowler and getting the “prowler flu”. So thanks to Maas brothers and EliteFTS, we have a brand new Pink Prowler for the Event.

Participants will be sponsored for the amount of âlapsâ they do with the prowler in one hour. A lap is the usual prowler push to the end of the building from our rear roll-up door and back. Participants will get sponsors that will pay a certain amount of money for a âlapâ. An example would be that I sponsor Megan. We agree that she will get $1 for a 90# lap, $2 180# lap, $4 dollars for 270# lap and a $20 bonus if she throws-up from the Prowler Flu.
Cycles for Rounds
Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010One cycle, is as many rounds you can complete in 3 minutes of:
5 Ring dips
10 Box jumps (20″)
15 DB Push press (35#/25#)
Rest one minute and repeat for a total of 4 cycles. Continue next cycle where previous cycle left off.
The Sled Troll

Mark Bell from Super Training will be here all day Thursday to showcase his Slingshot gear that helps with bench press technique. Anyone looking to improve bench press should consider hooking up with Mark for a demonstration. We’ll add some bench press demo by mark to the instructional portion of every WOD. Mark has benched 852#’s and is top 10 in the world at this lift. Here is a link to Super Training’s Web Site.
Isabel’s Pink Prowler
Wednesday, July 28th, 2010“Isabel”
For time:
Snatch 135 pounds, 30 reps
I’m going to go out on a ledge here and, thanks to Maas Brothers, claim that we are the first gym to have a hot pink prowler! Paul and Carolyn are putting together a Prowl for Breast Cancer fund raiser. I would assume that no other type of exercise can approximate the feeling of chemo like pushing the prowler and getting the prowler flu. Stay tuned.
